Barbara Bryant, MD, FCAP, FASCP, returned to Versiti in 2022 as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer after previously holding the role of Vice President of Transfusion Medicine.
 
Prior to joining Versiti, Dr. Bryant was the Chief of the Department of Transfusion Medicine and the Center for Cellular Engineering at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. While at the NIH, she served on the Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability and the Public Health Service Blood, Organ, and Tissue Senior Executive Council. She was also a member of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Blood Products Advisory Committee and AABB Board of Directors. She was also president of the South Central Association of Blood Banks.
 
Dr. Bryant earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and  a Specialist in Blood Banking from the School of Blood Bank Technology at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans.  She worked 17 years in blood banking before attending medical school and receiving her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2020 where she also completed a residency in pathology in 2005.  She completed a 2-year fellowship in transfusion medicine/blood banking at the NIH in 2007.
