A Pint for Kim is dedicated to spreading awareness about the importance of blood donation in honor of Kimberley Benedyk Sandford, who bravely and generously fought an 8-year battle with a rare cancer.

Kim’s heroic eight-year experience with cancer began in 2012 when she was diagnosed with a 1-in-a-million stage IV cancer. Though the initial prognosis was scary, Kim battled with fierce determination, strength and grace. During the final months of Kim’s treatments, she was receiving platelet transfusions almost daily.

Kim left us in March 2020, but her inspiration lives on in the A Pint for Kim movement. Honor her memory by donating lifesaving blood for other brave fighters at this year’s A Pint for Kim Blood Drives.

Blood Donation Facts:

  • 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need a transfusion
  • 1 donation can save up to 3 lives
  • Cancer patients use an estimated 25-35% of the donated blood supply – more than patients fighting any other disease – while they undergo treatments
