Leukemia, Lymphoma Society Thanks Heartland Blood Centers Staff!

Heartland Blood Center – November 3, 2017

Dear Kirtida,

You are the reason I am thankful this month and every month. Jenna, my beautiful, 14-year-old daughter, is alive today because of you.

At three years old, Jenna was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Along with her standard therapies for Down syndrome, Jenna battled blood cancer for two and a half years.

Because of the support people like you have shown to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the survival rate for childhood ALL had already risen from 5% to 90% by the time Jenna was diagnosed. This summer, Jenna celebrated 8 years cancer-free!

As the end of the year approaches, we will all be spending a lot of time with our families and reflecting on what makes us grateful. You are on my family's "thankful for…" list and we will spend the next two months letting you know exactly why.

Jenna brings a radiant light to the world and, over the next several weeks, I hope you are able to see what an integral part you have been in her life and our family's life. In my opinion, there should be more people like Jenna in the world. And LLS thinks so too. The effects of your dedication to LLS are alive and well in my home and, for newly diagnosed patients, your future commitments are incredibly important.

With all my heart, thank you.
