Robert H. Manegold to receive Virginia Brooks Jefferson Award
Versiti’s Blood Research Institute Foundation announced that it will host its third annual Imagine Gala on Friday, Sept.13, at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W. Wisconsin Ave., in Milwaukee. The event will take place from 5:30 – 9:30p.m. CBS58 news anchor Jessica Tighe will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.
Proceeds from the Imagine Gala support research at the Blood Research Institute.
The Blood Research Institute is a state-of-the-art facility located on the campus of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Complex in Wauwatosa. It is home to more than 160 physicians, scientists and technologists who work in 3 investigative laboratories. For more than 70 years, the Blood Research Institute has made breakthrough discoveries and provided hope to patients affected by blood diseases, immune system disorders, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
As part of the evening’s events, the 2019 Virginia Brooks Jefferson Award will be presented to Robert H. Manegold, Immediate Past Chair of the Research Institute Foundation Board. This esteemed award was created in honor of Virginia Brooks Jefferson, the first president of the BloodCenter of Wisconsin. The award recognizes an individual or organization whose outstanding volunteer leadership support Versiti’s mission.
Manegold began his service to Versiti when he joined the Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin Board of Directors in 2006. He has served on both the Versiti Board and The Blood Research Institute Foundation Board of Directors, where he served as the inaugural Chair from 2015-2018.
“I am very proud to serve this organization which has become Versiti, with blood centers supplying Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin and the internationally acclaimed Blood Research Institute. I hope this award will help to draw well-earned attention to this Milwaukee treasure and the incredible discoveries being made here routinely,” said Manegold. “Our investigators are expanding the frontiers of medical knowledge through innovative research that offers patients new treatments, cures, and importantly, hope. My real reward has been to better understand and support the work here at Versiti and help steward our mission. It is truly an honor to receive this recognition.”
Manegold also serves on the boards of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater and the Dartmouth University Hopkins Center for the Arts.
More than 300 guests are expected to attend. The event begins at 5:30p.m. with cocktails and hors‘doeuvres, followed by dinner, a live auction and award presentation.
