    Transfusion Medicine

    Dr. Padmanabhan is a member of the Medical Sciences Institute of the BloodCenter of Wisconsin working in collaboration with Richard H Aster, M.D. His area of research focus is Heparin induced Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (HIT), a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients: 1-5% of patients on heparin therapy go on to develop this condition. The focus of his studies is on defining the immunological mechanism by which HIT antibodies cause thrombocytopenia and thrombosis and are aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment of this serious complication of heparin therapy.
