Commonly Asked Questions

  • How do I join the platelet frequency program?

Once you start donating platelets during February 26 - June 30, 2018 you will automatically be entered into the program. No extra steps needed!

  • Where can I donate to participate in this program?

You can donate at any Indiana Blood Center donor center and select mobiles at Hendricks Regional Health (Avon and Plainfield), Columbus Regional, Muncie Mall and Community Health Anderson Pavilion (located in Muncie) and Markland Mall (Kokomo).

  • Can I do multiple platelet donations in one procedure?

Absolutely! We encourge eligibile donors to donate multiple platelet products when ever possible. Because platelets only have a shelf life of 5 days, the need for platelets is continuous and great.

  • What all does a platelet donation entail?

A platelet donation (including registration, health history and mini-physical) takes approximately one and a half to two and a half hours, but the donation itself takes anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. During a platelet donation, only platelets are taken; your remaining blood components are returned to you. Only a small percentage of your platelets are collected, so there is no risk of bleeding problems.

A donor can donate platelets every seven days. Our staff at Indiana Blood Center works hard to make sure you are comfortable during your procedure and will go the extra mile to make sure your experience is a good one.

  • What do I get for participating in the Platelet Frequency Program?

Besides a patient's undying gratitude, you will also be eligible to receive exclusive Indiana Blood Center branded rewards. By successfully donating 7 times between February 26 - June 30, 2018, one of those donations being on any Sunday, you will receive a 24 oz. Indiana Blood Center Tervis Tumbler. We will be updating our exclusive Platelet Frequency Program rewards every 6 months, so check back later for more details!
