Sarah Gross

Marrow Donation, Recipient, Wisconsin

One in 75,000—that’s how rare Sarah’s blood type is.

Sarah was “completely unaware” of her extremely rare blood type—O negative and Vel-negative, meaning she lacks a specific antigen on the surface of her red blood cells—until she began treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2017.

As part of her treatment, Sarah received multiple blood transfusions from rare donors and a lifesaving bone marrow transplant that helped her beat cancer. “I’m so grateful for the rare donor program,” she says.

People need people, make a difference in someone’s life by donating blood.

We must rely on each other for the gift of blood, and patients in your community rely on the generosity of Versiti’s blood donors to help. Please consider scheduling an appointment to donate. If this is your first time, donating blood is quick, easy and relatively painless. And, it is a great way to give back and help patients in your community.
