Versiti - Lions for Life Leadership Challenge Official Rules | Versiti Community Partnerships

Lions Leadership Challenge Official Rules

OFFICIAL RULES

Versiti Blood Center of Michigan has partnered with the Detroit Lions to create awareness of the need for a strong and consistent blood supply within our community. By hosting a blood drive this summer, participating high schools can compete to receive a $1,000 equipment voucher from the Detroit Lions. More importantly, participating high schools can help their communities save lives.

The Versiti Blood Center of Michigan / Detroit Lions for Life Leadership Challenge (the “Challenge”) is sponsored by the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, 1036 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 (the “Sponsor”). The Prize Provider for the Challenge is DLI Properties, LLC, 2000 Brush St., Suite 200, Detroit, MI 48226 (“Prize Provider”).

Winning schools will be selected based on the criteria stated below. The Challenge is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.

ELIGIBILITY: The Program is open to participating high schools located within the State of Michigan. Eligible high schools will fall into one of two categories:

  1. “New Schools” include those high schools that have not previously hosted a blood drive with Versiti.
  2. “Existing Schools” include those high schools that have previously hosted a Versiti blood drive.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Eligible high schools interested in participating in the Challenge should contact their Versiti Account Representative or contact Theresa Gorelick at the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan by phone (734.272.6736) or by email (tgorelick@versiti.org). Once a high school notifies its representative or Theresa Gorelick of its desire to participate in the Challenge, an affiliation code will be added to Versiti’s system to identify the blood drive associated with this Challenge.

To participate in the Challenge, a high school will be required to host one (1) blood drive between May 25, 2026 and September 7, 2026 (the “Challenge Period”). Blood drives that take place before or after the Challenge Period will not be eligible. Sponsor will provide instructions and guidance to the high schools on planning, scheduling, and hosting a blood drive, including how to select a time and location for the blood drive and how to recruit volunteers and potential donors.

A total of five (5) high schools will be selected as winners based on the criteria outlined below in Selection of Winners.

PRIZES AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES (“ARV”):

Three (3) $1,000 Grant Winners will be awarded as follows:

  • Most Valuable Program (MVP): The participating high school (whether a New School or an Existing School) that collects the most total blood units during the school’s blood drive.
  • Most Improved Program (MIP): An Existing School that demonstrates the greatest increase in total blood units collected compared to its previous year’s participation.
  • Rookie of the Year (ROY): A New School that collects the most total blood units during its first year of participation.

Each of the above winners will receive:

  • One (1) $1,000 equipment voucher (ARV: $1,000)

Two (2) Wild Card Grant Winners will also be selected among all participating schools (i.e., Existing Schools and New Schools). Odds of winning depend on the number of participating schools. Each selected Wild Card Grant Winner will receive the following:

  • One (1) $500 equipment grant (ARV: $500)

In addition, all winning schools will be eligible to receive:

  • Public announcement to local press and recognition on Versiti’s and The Lions’ Foundation social media channels (ARV: no intrinsic value)

Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. Taxes on prizes (if any) are the sole responsibility of the winner. Where not prohibited, prize acceptance forms, publicity releases, and/or mutually acceptable liability releases may be required as a condition of prize award if requested by Sponsor.

Prizes are non-transferable except in the sole discretion of the Sponsor. No substitution or cash equivalent is permitted. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater approximate retail value. Prize consists only of items specifically listed as part of the prize. All costs and expenses not expressly stated herein, including but not limited to delivery, installation, service activation fees, or other expenses incurred in connection with accepting the prize, are the sole responsibility of the winner.

SELECTION OF WINNERS: Sponsor representatives will serve as the judges and will calculate the score for each participating school using the formula below:

Score Calculation: Number of blood units collected at blood drive hosted by the school during the Challenge Period = School Score

Example: School hosts a blood drive during the Challenge Period that collected 70 units of blood.

  • 70 units = School Score

Sponsor’s records and database will be used to determine the number of blood units collected for each blood drive. (For purposes of clarity, the number of blood units means the actual number of blood units collected, and not, for example, the number of registered donors.)

The Existing or New School that achieves the highest school score from among all participating schools will be deemed the MVP winner. The Existing School that demonstrates the greatest increase in total blood units collected compared to its prior year’s participation will be deemed the MIP winner. The New School that achieves the highest school score from among all participating New Schools will be deemed the ROY winner. Selection for Wild Card winners will be selected based on a random drawing. All judges’ and Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding.

In the unlikely event of a tie affecting winner selection for any prize, the tied entrant that conducted its blood drive on the earlier date will be deemed the winner. If a tie still exists, the tied entry that collected the most blood units from donors under 25 years of age will be deemed the winner. If a tie still exists, the tied entry that collected the most blood units from donors between 25 and 40 years of age will be deemed the winner.

NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: Winning schools will be notified on or about September 30, 2026 by phone, email, and/or regular mail, in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Winner will be required to respond within fourteen (14) business days of notification, or the prize may be forfeited, and an alternate winner will be chosen. Prize acceptance forms and/or mutually acceptable publicity and liability releases may be required and, if so requested by Sponsor, must be returned within the reasonable specified time or prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner chosen.

In addition, each winning school will be asked to host a brief check-presentation ceremony with a representative from Versiti at an upcoming school event (such as a football game, pep rally, or similar student gathering) to help celebrate the achievement and to allow for photo and media opportunities. The specific date, time, and location of the presentation will be coordinated between the Sponsor and the winning school. Attendance at the presentation is part of the prize award and must be arranged in good faith by both parties.

PUBLICITY RELEASE: Except where prohibited, acceptance of the prize constitutes winner’s consent that its name, likeness, and/or geographical data may be used for advertising and promotional purposes without limitation and without additional notice, compensation, or consent.
